Are you looking for more information on cancer and critical illness insurance?
Do you want to be proactive and protect yourself if you were to get an unfortunate diagnosis?
And are you concerned about what will happen financially, if you are unable to work and pay your bills?
Imagine if you were to be out of work for a prolonged period of time due to a serious illness.
With the increasingly high health insurance deductibles, and numerous out of pocket costs (according to npr).
How would you handle all of your finances?
Fortunately there are insurance policies that will help protect you in most of these cases.
They pay out a lump sum to cover the extra expenses that your health insurance does not cover.
Things such as:
- Travel expenses to visit a specialist
- Extra fees for out of network doctors/hospitals
- Time off from your job
Investopedia says “Critical illness insurance could be the only thing protecting you from financial ruin
Many people assume they’re fully protected with a standard health insurance plan, but the exorbitant costs of treating life-threatening illnesses are usually more than any plan will cover.”
Main Difference Between Cancer and Critical Illness Insurance
The main difference between the 2 is that cancer insurance will only provide a benefit if you happen to be diagnosed with cancer.
Critical illness insurance will also pay out if you are diagnosed will other illnesses such as:
- Cancer
- Heart Attack
- Hearing and/or Sight Loss
- Stroke
- Paralysis
- Coma
- Kidney Failure
- Organ Transplant
However most critical illness claims happen to be for cancer.
Other Differences
Cancer insurance tends to be less expensive than Critical Illness because you are being covered for less types of illnesses.
Also critical illness is harder to qualify for because of stricter underwriting guidelines.
Another difference is that in most cases, cancer insurance coverage kicks in immediately upon diagnosis, where with critical illness there is usually a 90 day waiting period.
This can be very important if you happen to need immediate treatment for your condition.
Some main qualifications for the minimum cancer insurance policies are:
- You must be under age 65 when you purchase the policy
- Not been tested positive for HIV or been diagnosed with AIDS
- Have not been diagnosed with any form of cancer, leukemia, malignant tumor, or lymphoma
